While there is much raging (or, more likely, polite) debate on who first came up with the ingenious idea of passing hours outside hitting a golf ball from place to place, the general consensus is that the game was invented by our kilted friends, the Scottish, during the Middle Ages.
It then hung around for a few centuries until it gained momentum in the 19th century and promptly took the world by storm. And here we are today, as in love as ever.
